As summer draws to a close, we at Nel PreTech Corporation are proud to reflect on the rewarding journey of our summer intern, Alex. He made significant contributions to our team over the past 13 weeks. This internship wasn't just about learning the ropes; it was about researching the world of metrology, dimensional inspection, and 3D scanning. It was about driving innovation and fostering the growth of future industry leaders.
During this internship, Alex had the opportunity to operate both CT (computed tomography) and CMM (coordinate measuring machine) technologies—two critical tools of precision measurement and dimensional inspection. By working with these advanced machines, Alex gained invaluable hands-on experience and a deep understanding of the importance of accuracy and detail in metrology services. Alex’s ability to quickly adapt and absorb these technologies speaks volumes about their dedication and potential.
Additionally, Alex was exposed to our industry-leading 3D scanning technology, learning how non-contact methods reshape dimensional inspection by capturing high-precision data in a fraction of the time. This experience highlighted the significance of dimensional inspection in ensuring the quality and reliability of components across various industries.
One of the standout achievements from this summer was the design and manufacturing of a two-dimensional positioning system, a project to which Alex made significant contributions. This system is a testament to Alex’s creativity, engineering skills, and ability to work collaboratively within a team. Bringing this system from concept to completion was a challenging yet rewarding experience.
This system will assist in object placement during CT scanning, allowing for more parts per scan and a precise alignment and positioning of parts. The project allowed Alex to apply theoretical knowledge to a practical challenge, showcasing not only his engineering skills but also his ability to innovate and contribute to real-world applications.
We’re particularly excited to share photos of this two-dimensional positioning system, showcasing the precision and craftsmanship involved in its creation.
It’s important to highlight that this summer wasn’t just a learning experience for Alex—it was also a time of growth and reflection for our entire team. The fresh perspectives and new ideas Alex brought to the table allowed us to think differently and helped us to stay at the forefront of innovation. This exchange of knowledge and expertise is exactly what our internship program is designed to foster, and we’re thrilled with the results.
